The framework for inspecting and testing Ontario's drinking water systems.


Overview

This legislation establishes the standards and requirements for providing clean, safe drinking water to people living in Ontario.

The act includes policies on topics such as:

  • Operator certification
  • Accreditation of operating authorities
  • Drinking water system requirements
  • Licensing of municipal drinking water systems and approvals under the Drinking Water Works Permit
  • Approvals for non-municipal drinking water systems
  • Drinking water testing
  • Inspections
  • Compliance and enforcement
  • Appeals
  • Offences

Purpose

To protect human health, prevent drinking water hazards and recognize that Ontarians are entitled to expect safe drinking water.

Improve it

Water treatment on reserves is a must but spending all the money to sent up the plants and then no follow up to see if the people running it are current with training or even trained at all is where the Gov. falls short. You can't keep throwing money at a problem without someone that is qualified! to see that the money ends up in the right place.
