Hotel Registration of Guests Act

Requirements for registering hotel guests, posting rates and penalties for non-compliance.


Overview

There are three requirements for hotel registration:

  1. a register must be present to record the name and address of every person admitted
  2. everyone who applies for overnight admission as a guest in a hotel must provide authentic identification
  3. room rates must be posted clearly in every room to be used for sleeping

Failure to meet the first two requirements will result in a maximum fine $100. Failure to pay the fine will result in imprisonment of up to three months.

Failure to meet the third requirement will result in a fine of $500.

Purpose

To ensure hotels have accurate records of everyone who use their facilities and to ensure guests are notified of prices for the rooms.
